The Currents of Freedom: How Water Remembers What We’re Forgetting
There’s something happening to water that most people don’t notice. Not just in our oceans and rivers, but in the very way water moves through our world, and through us. I’ve been watching water for years. Not just as a substance, but as a living intelligence. What I’m seeing now troubles me deeply. There is a resemblance I have started to see that I feel I have to share with you.
The Taming of the Wild
Water in its natural state is wild.
It meanders. It carves new paths.
It refuses to be contained.
This wildness is its greatest strength.
Its ability to flow around obstacles,
to find new routes, to persist
despite barriers.
But increasingly, our world is trying
to tame water.
We straighten rivers. We pave over
natural absorption areas. We treat water
as a resource to be managed,
rather than a living being to be
respected.
This is not just about infrastructure.
It is about mindset.
Efficiency over freedom. Control over freedom.
Manipulation over freedom. Safety over freedom.
And when we tame water externally,
something interesting happens.
We simultaneously tame the water within ourselves.
The same systems that tame water
are also trying to tame the
human spirit.
We become less fluid. More rigid.
We lose our capacity to adapt,
to flow around obstacles, to find
creative solutions.
The Digital Currents
Perhaps most concerning is how we
are replacing natural water cycles with
digital ones.
Our attention flows through screens rather
than streams.
Our emotions are filtered through algorithms
rather than moving freely.
Our connections happen through Wi-Fi signals
rather than through the electromagnetic field
that surrounds us.
These digital currents feel like water.
They flow. They connect. They transmit information.
But they lack the wild intelligence
of natural water.
They can be controlled, monitored, and redirected.
They do not carry memory the
way water does.
And it is subtle.
Because we are presented with the
goal, the future, the efficiency,
the expenses, the time saving.
But never with the cost of
what it takes.
Never with the cost of what
we have to give in.
We trade the rich, multidimensional experience
of natural connection for the flat
interface of screens.
We exchange the unpredictable wisdom of
water’s memory for the predictable patterns
of code.
We surrender the freedom of organic
flow for the convenience of directed
channels.
All while believing we are gaining
something, rather than losing what matters
most.
The Parallels Within Us
What is happening to water outside
us is happening to the water
inside us.
This is not metaphor. It is biology.
Rivers are straightened, and our thoughts
become increasingly linear.
Wetlands are drained and developed, and
our intuition is dismissed in favor
of rational analysis.
Natural springs are capped and commercialized,
and our innate wisdom is packaged
and sold back to us as
expert knowledge.
Water is measured and monitored, and
our lives become quantified through metrics
and performance indicators.
There is a parallel.
Is one the consequence of the other?
Who shall say.
But there is a striking resemblance.
Similar forces that control external water
also control internal water.
For the same reasons.
The Subtle Controls
Human control happens through similar mechanisms
as water control.
Standardization
Just as water is treated to
remove “impurities,†human behavior is standardized
to remove deviation.
Schools teach conformity. Workplaces reward compliance.
Social platforms reward popularity.
And slowly, the unique signature of
a human being is pressured into
sameness.
The water in the body responds
to this.
When we suppress our natural variation,
our body water becomes less responsive
to our authentic needs and more
attuned to external expectation.
Channelization
Rivers are straightened for efficiency.
Human attention is channeled for productivity.
Our days are structured. Our time
is managed. Our focus is directed
toward predetermined outcomes instead of organic
discovery.
And the water in our nervous
system begins to follow.
Neural pathways become more rigid than fluid.
The natural communication between cells moves
into predictable patterns, limiting creative thought
and spontaneous insight.
Monitoring
Water quality is monitored continuously.
Human behavior is tracked increasingly.
Every digital interaction creates data that
can be analyzed, predicted, and influenced.
What begins as convenience gradually becomes control.
This constant monitoring places the body
in a state of subtle vigilance.
The water in our cells, which
normally responds to natural environmental cues,
becomes overwhelmed with artificial stimuli.
This disrupts coherence, drains energy, and
weakens the sense of inner knowing.
Chemical Alteration
Water is treated with chemicals to
make it “safe.â€
Human bodies are exposed to substances
that alter mood, cognition, and behavior.
From processed foods to pharmaceuticals, we
normalize interventions that change the natural
intelligence of the body.
These substances also affect the structure
of our inner waters.
The cellular water that should respond
to our unique needs becomes less
fluid, less clear, and more conditioned
by external influence.
The Digitalization of Consciousness
Digital systems are becoming the primary
interface through which we start to
experience reality.
This matters because digital systems can
be controlled in ways natural systems
cannot.
And more and more of this
will be done by AI.
A non-human intelligence that starts to
control human experiences.
And what then?
The answer is that it begins
to shape our very biology.
When AI determines what we see,
hear, and experience, it is not
just influencing our minds.
It is influencing the water that
makes up most of our bodies.
This external intelligence gradually overrides our
internal intelligence, creating a dissonance between
our biological nature and our digital
experience.
When we see the world through
screens, we are seeing a version
that can be manipulated.
When our relationships are mediated through
platforms, they are subject to algorithms
that prioritize certain connections over others.
When our emotions are expressed through
emojis rather than facial expressions, they
are simplified into quantifiable data.
Children who grow up with digital
interfaces rather than natural ones are
developing differently.
Their attention patterns, their social skills,
and their emotional regulation are being
shaped by systems designed to maximize
engagement rather than well-being.
We would call this manipulation.
Or control.
And we happily comply with it,
because we are not aware of
the bigger picture.
We are not aware that every
time we choose digital connection over
physical presence, we are altering the
water in our bodies.
We are not aware that when
we outsource our memory to devices,
we are changing how our cellular
water stores information.
We are not aware that when
we allow algorithms to determine our
emotional experiences, we are allowing external
forces to structure the very fluid
that facilitates our consciousness.
When Control Starts to Feel Normal
The control is gradual enough that
most people do not perceive it
as control.
Each step seems reasonable.
Safety. Convenience. Efficiency. Connection.
But the cumulative effect is profound.
We may only notice when enough
people feel the dissonance between their
natural state and their conditioned state.
When enough children show symptoms of
disconnection that cannot be explained away.
When enough adults feel the emptiness
of standardized living, despite having all
their material needs met.
It becomes too late when we
have forgotten that another way is
possible.
When we accept control as care.
When we accept manipulation as connection.
When we lose the memory of
our wild nature so completely that
we can no longer recognize our
own containment.
When we do not know who
we innately are anymore.
Confused. Too busy making ends meet.
Maintaining a lifestyle that costs all
our time.
Only because we believe this is
the goal.
And gradually, it depletes our energy,
our life force, our true connection
with people and nature.
But water remembers.
And because our bodies are mostly
water, we remember too.
Even when we have forgotten consciously,
there is a part of us
that still knows how to flow.
How to adapt.
How to find freedom, even in
constrained circumstances.
Reclaiming Our Flow
The solution is not complicated, though
it is not always easy.
Reconnect with Natural Water
Drink natural water when possible.
Spend time near rivers, lakes, springs,
or the sea.
Let your body remember its original
relationship with water.
Natural water carries a different coherence.
It helps the water within you
remember movement, wildness, and intelligence.
Allow Emotional Flow
Let emotions move through you instead
of damming them up.
Emotional fluidity is a form of
resistance to control.
When emotions stagnate, the inner waters
stagnate.
When emotions move, the body remembers
flow.
Create Digital Boundaries
Choose when and how you engage
with digital systems.
Create moments where your attention can
move naturally again.
When you disconnect, your body has
space to return to its own
rhythm.
Move Your Body
Dance. Stretch. Walk. Let your body
find its own rhythm.
Natural movement helps water move through
your tissues and organs.
It restores the flow of your
own expression.
Trust Your Inner Knowing
Develop confidence in your own perception.
Your internal water holds wisdom that
cannot be accessed through external systems.
When you trust your inner knowing,
you strengthen the connection between your
consciousness and the water in your
body.
These actions may seem small.
But they are revolutionary.
They are acts of remembering in
a world that encourages forgetting.
Water holds the frequency of freedom.
When we reconnect with water’s wild
nature, we reconnect with our own.
The choice is ours, moment by moment.
Will we allow ourselves to be contained?
Or will we remember how to flow?
De Levende Intelligentie van Water
If you feel the call to
deepen your connection with the living
intelligence of water, I invite you
to join me in Milsbeek, Netherlands.
On September 11th, I will be
hosting De Levende Intelligentie van Water,
a one-day experience of remembering, deepening,
and embodiment.
We will explore water as consciousness,
frequency, and living field.
For those who wish to dive
deeper, there is also an optional
Water Immersion & Recalibration half-day on
September 12th.
This is a space to reconnect
with the wisdom of your own
water body and remember the freedom
that still flows through you.
